Your Ultimate Guide to Florida’s Underwater Museum of Art
An Art Museum Unlike the Others
What, exactly, is the Underwater Museum of Art? We’re glad you ask! Less than a mile off the coast of South Walton’s picturesque Gulf Coast beaches and 60 feet below the water’s surface, you’ll discover this hidden gem of epic proportions. The museum, which opened in June of 2018, sits on the seafloor and is accessible via scuba diving. All sculptures on display are environmentally friendly, too! None contain plastics or toxins of any kind in an effort to keep the beaches of 30A safe for native wildlife.
What Is Featured in the Underwater Museum?
The deep dive has a big payoff—when you arrive at the museum, you’ll be met with seven unique sculptures. These pieces are handcrafted by both local and nationally acclaimed artists who were selected by the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County to be a part of this historic display. Over time, even more beautiful works of art may be added to this submerged gallery!
Visitor Information
Aside from schools of grouper, sea turtles, and dolphins, the museum welcomes human visitors from all over the world! The best part about this museum is that there is no charge for admission. To explore the larger-than-life sculptures present in these emerald depths, all you need to do is:
- Be a certified scuba diver or proficient at snorkeling (the only other way to view the sculptures, albeit from a distance)
- Be a capable open-water swimmer
- Possess or rent scuba/snorkeling gear
- Pay to enter Grayton Beach State Park (a public access point from land).
